Interviewed on Bizarro Central

photo(1)AN INTERVIEW TO ROCK YOUR STRIPEY SOCKS OFF

I was recently interviewed over on Bizarro Central for their new “Show Me Your Shelves” mini-series ran by the great Gabino Iglesias. He asks some questions and, as you can probably guess, I answer them. You’ve read interviews before. I also show off some groovy pics of my bookshelf and my melting Dali clock, plus my gorgeous fucking face.

So go check that thing out. And then pre-order Toxicity so these kids stop complaining about not having dinner.

Join me this weekend at LoneStarCon (WorldCon)

Throughout this Labor Day weekend I will be attending Worldcon right here in San Antonio. Notable guests include Ellen Datlow and Joe Lansdale, among many others. This Worldcon will mark Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing’s very first vendor table, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. We even have two of our authors, Jay Wilburn (Time Eaters) and Sue Lange (The Perpetual Motion Club) down here helping us sell books.

The convention actually started yesterday, but it was mostly spent setting up shop. Today (Friday) the convention really should get rolling, and I hope to see a lot of you there. If so, please make sure to come up to the PMMP table. If you mention this blog post, I’ll give you a discount on any book of your choosing.

Join me in New Orleans at the World Horror Convention

So, a few people have let it slip already, so I am gonna go ahead and announce it as well. I will be a panelist at the World Horror Convention in New Orleans this year (June 13-16). I have gone my entire life successfully avoiding any sort of public speaking or even acknowledging other human beings, for that matter, so this will be very interesting. The panel in question will be about small press publishing. Seeing as I own my own small press, I do have quite a few things I’d like to discuss. Originally, I was scheduled to be on the Sexiest Writers Alive panel, but that was ultimately cut out of the convention for unknown reasons.

R16:11 SMALL PRESS PUBLISHING, PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE

Royal Room, Sunday 11am-Noon

We talk about the many small presses, what to look out for, how to find the right one for your writing and career endeavors, and so much more

Moderator: Charles Day

Panelists: Kim Richards, Max Booth III, Mark C. Scioneaux and Pete Giglio.

For more insight, Charles and Pete are the masterminds behind Evil Jester Press, Kim is the co-founder of Damnation Books, Mark is the co-founder of Nightscape Press, and Max (hey, that’s me!) is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing.

See you all there.

My Debut Book, True Stories Told By a Liar, is Coming Soon

So in case some of you haven’t heard yet, Numen Books will be publishing my debut book, TRUE STORIES TOLD BY A LIAR in a few weeks (just in time for that mad Christmas rush). It’s a book of 21 short stories–11 previously published and 10 unpublished. I am very, very excited about all of this, for obvious reasons, but even more so now that one of my heroes in the horror industry has given me an advanced blurb on the book:

“Max Booth III’s stories are as sharp and unexpected as a gunshot breaking the still of an evening. His masterful collection, True Stories Told By a Liar, takes normal men and women, like any of us, and tilts their world just enough to drive them mad. These stories are truly dark gems, told by a storyteller to watch. Max Booth III is a star on the rise!”

—Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Flesh Eaters and Inheritance

I know, right? This is all crazy, and any second now I am expecting somebody to come walking from behind a fake wall revealing that this has all been some elaborate trick. It’ll happen, we’ll just have to give it time, is all.

Since I have a book and everything now (for the time being), I am going to be making more updates on this blog thing of mine, since I’ve somewhat neglected it in the past. I’ll also be maintaining the Perpetual Motion Machine site, as well–which I realize now I never actually announced on my blog, but everyone who knows me is already well aware of it. But in case you have no idea what I’m talking about–I am the editor-in-chief of the new small press, Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing, and yes, the name is quite long, thank you for noticing. I actually just recently wrote a blog post there about Amazon’s new review policy that you may want to check out–the views on that post were just insane. It definitely reached people, which is a good thing I SUPPOSE.
